Gauhar (Gaga) Murray was born in 1992 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Surrounded very early on by her mother’s love of art and design she developed a deep passion for drawing and working creatively with an array of materials.
She studied visual arts & jewelry design at Pine Manor College as well as the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Over the course of her studies, Gaga found herself trending towards the design of jewelry as her primary creative outlet. In 2018 at the age of 25, she launched her own House, Gauhar.
Her references come from her love of Eurasian and greater Eastern art, textiles and patterns. She takes inspiration from the traditional images of the region, often found in architecture & hand woven textiles, incorporating them into her contemporary jewelry pieces. Another element to her inspiration comes from her time living in the vibrant of city of Dubai, a global hub, tying the cultures of the East & West together. It was there that Gaga’s love of arabesque art wove it’s way into her life, serving as further inspiration for Gauhar.
